The Grand Caravan: The Ultimate Family Vehicle

Minivans are a vehicle built for hauling—perfect for those who have young children, or personal belongings like sports equipment or large items to haul. Minivans are perfect when taking road trips and daily treks around town.

For their ability to move people and things, minivans have long been praised as the best cars for families. However, the vehicles have also caught the eyes of retirees for some of the same reasons: easy access, high seating positions, and lots of passenger and cargo space.

Buyers looking for a new car should consider the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan at Melloy Dodge. It's not only one of the best cars for families, but its capabilities are attracting others.

Seating and capacity
The minivan can seat up to seven passengers. Its cargo area measures 33 cubic feet but increases to 143.8 when all of the seats are lowered into the floor using the Stow ‘n Go system.

Powertrain
All 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan come with a 3.6-liter V6 engine. It kicks out 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and works with an automatic transmission.

Fuel economy

Models and features
The 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan comes in six different trim levels, such as American Value Package (AVP), SE, SE Plus, SXT, SXT Plus and R/T. The AVP serves as the base version.

Standard equipment includes heated and powered mirrors, two-zone air conditioning system, title and telescoping steering wheel, and power windows and locks.

The optional equipment list runs the gamut, ranging from a three-zone air conditioner and a six-speaker radio on the SE model to a remote starting system, review camera, nine-speaker radio, leather seats and a 6.5-inch touchscreen on the top-level R/T. Additional bells and whistles can be added with special packages.

The AVP and SE models at Melloy Dodge can be equipped with the Uconnect Hands-free Group package. Five Things you Didn’t Know About the Dodge Challenger

  1. The 1970 Dodge Challenger that we think of as being the first of these models to hit the road wasn’t actually the first Dodge vehicle to carry the “Challenger” name. In the late 1950’s Dodge released what was called the “Silver Challenger” to the Coronet line of vehicles. Of course, the trademark of the Silver challenger was its metallic silver paint.

  1. Melloy Dodge and Dodge manufacturers the world over defend the Challenger’s title as “America’s Most Powerful Muscle Car” with powerful upgrades every year. We back that up with supercharged Hemi V-8 engines and 707 horsepower. What that means is that the Challenger can deliver massive power output every time.

  1. Before the souped-up Hellcat was released to the general public, there was a Viper-esque V-10 Challenger manufactured by Dodge that, while not street legal, was coveted just the same. The race-only Drag Pak V-10 Challenger was first made available in 2011, but you won’t be able to get your hands on one of these bad boys any more. Dodge has stopped manufacturing them.

  1. When designing cars like the Dodge Challenger before they hit Melloy Dodge and the streets of Albuquerque, engineers at Dodge spend a significant amount of time working on the aerodynamics of the Challenger. Some engineers at Dodge say that the Challenger prototypes spend more time in the wind tunnel than anywhere else. This in part explains the excellent performance and incredible speed that the Challenger can achieve.

  1. In addition to a main cooling system that regulates engine temperature, a second system runs slightly cooler and reduces the heat of the intake charge. That’s right, the Dodge Challengers on the lot at Melloy Dodge have not one, but TWO cooling systems. The second lower temperature cooling system is even sealed from the rest of the working parts and runs its own fluid and electric water pump. That’s some impressive engineering.

Uber Costs vs. Low Mileage Leasing

For many people in the Albuquerque area, investing in a new car, even through a lease, may not seem necessary, particularly if you live near work, school, and shopping. For young people attending UNM and living near Albuquerque’ s center biking and walking are attractive and affordable ways to get around, and increasingly, those without a vehicle are looking to services like Uber and Lyft to catch a ride when they need one. At Melloy Dodge we want to help save you money and allow you to travel through town not only cost efficiently, but inexpensively. If you travel fewer than 10,000 miles a year, a low mileage lease might just be a better option for you than relying on Uber and Lyft in a pinch.

The miles add up pretty quickly if you take an Uber ride even just a few times a week. Some recent research suggests that users could end up spending $12, 744 if you travel 9, 500 miles in a given year by car. The way businesses like Lyft are made sustainable is by charging users by the mile, sometimes at unpredictable rates, like on late nights and weekends. Believe it or not, you could have a practical Dodge vehicle on hand whenever you need it through a low mileage lease for a lot less than $12, 744 a year.

Assuming you pay around $400 per month to lease a brand new Dodge, somewhere around $1, 300 a year in gasoline, and $350 for insurance, and lets just throw in about $350 for maintenance throughout the year, that still ads up to around just $7, 775 a year- a whole lot less than the cost of traveling fewer miles year via Uber transportation.

At Melloy Dodge leasing a vehicle can be extremely affordable, and the benefits that come with leasing are immense- you can trade in the vehicle in three years, for example, and get free maintenance as well. Get in touch with our sales team to learn more about the leases available, and then come in and take a test drive in one of our great and versatile vehicles like the 2015 Dodge Dart!
