- The 1970 Dodge Challenger that we think of as being the first of these models to hit the road wasn’t actually the first Dodge vehicle to carry the “Challenger” name. In the late 1950’s Dodge released what was called the “Silver Challenger” to the Coronet line of vehicles. Of course, the trademark of the Silver challenger was its metallic silver paint.
- Melloy Dodge and Dodge manufacturers the world over defend the Challenger’s title as “America’s Most Powerful Muscle Car” with powerful upgrades every year. We back that up with supercharged Hemi V-8 engines and 707 horsepower. What that means is that the Challenger can deliver massive power output every time.
- Before the souped-up Hellcat was released to the general public, there was a Viper-esque V-10 Challenger manufactured by Dodge that, while not street legal, was coveted just the same. The race-only Drag Pak V-10 Challenger was first made available in 2011, but you won’t be able to get your hands on one of these bad boys any more. Dodge has stopped manufacturing them.
- When designing cars like the Dodge Challenger before they hit Melloy Dodge and the streets of Albuquerque, engineers at Dodge spend a significant amount of time working on the aerodynamics of the Challenger. Some engineers at Dodge say that the Challenger prototypes spend more time in the wind tunnel than anywhere else. This in part explains the excellent performance and incredible speed that the Challenger can achieve.
- In addition to a main cooling system that regulates engine temperature, a second system runs slightly cooler and reduces the heat of the intake charge. That’s right, the Dodge Challengers on the lot at Melloy Dodge have not one, but TWO cooling systems. The second lower temperature cooling system is even sealed from the rest of the working parts and runs its own fluid and electric water pump. That’s some impressive engineering.
